planet antares complaintsSome senior citizens qualify for a one-time $250 rebate on Medicare prescription drug costs, and the lure of easy money is too much for some scammers to pass up.  Senior citizens are being warned about providing information or paying an up-front fee to anyone who claims to be from Medicare or seeks information such as Social Security numbers for the purpose of speeding up the payment of this rebate.

Not all senior citizens are eligible for the $250 check. The rebate is part of the new Affordable Care Act and aims to help Medicare recipients with high out-of-pocket prescription drug costs. Medicare tracks prescription spending for all beneficiaries and will issue the refund check automatically once a beneficiary’s prescription drug spending exceeds a pre-determined amount. The check will be issued directly from the US Treasury and not from a third-party payer or insurance provider.

To avoid this Medicare scam, Planet Antares Complaints provides a few helpful tips.

If you think you or someone you know may qualify for the rebate, do nothing. It sounds easy enough and it actually is. There is no need to file any paperwork or make any claims. Medicare will mail the rebate check to qualifying beneficiaries automatically.

Do not provide personal information such as Social Security numbers or bank account numbers to anyone who calls. If a person claims to be from the Social Security Administration, hang up.  A genuine SSA worker will never call and ask for your Social Security Number.

Likewise, planet antares complaints recommends not to provide personal information to someone who claims to be able to speed up the processing on your rebate. This program is designed to provide a rebate check as soon as a beneficiary qualifies. The only way to qualify for the refund is to exceed a preset limit on prescription drug coverage, usually about $2,800 per year.

If you do not know how close you are to exceeding the preset spending amount, contact the Medicare administration or your Medicare healthcare provider for assistance.
