    Planet Antares Scam Solutions – Police in Florida say a Boynton Beach woman is the latest victim of a “first-time offender” scam.  The woman lost $6,000 after wiring it to scam artists in the Dominican Republic who falsely claimed that the woman had been implicated in a drug scam in that country.

    Police say the victim received a telephone call from a person posing as an investigator for the US Drug Enforcement Agency. The scammer told the woman that the agency had intercepted nearly 10,000 pills that were addressed to her en route to the Dominican Republic.  The scammer told her that if she wired $2,500 to the Dominican Republic, her name would be removed from the court filing against her in that country.

    After wiring the money, she received a second call informing her that the “judge” in the case did not accept the payment and wanted an additional $3,500 to clear her name. The woman wired more money and then became suspicious of the story and went to her local police department.

    Do not wire money abroad for any reason, especially to someone you do not know.

    Law enforcement agencies do not allow anyone to purchase their way out of a legitimate legal action.  If someone claims that you’ve been indicted outside of your jurisdiction, or that there is a warrant for your arrest, you can check with your local police department. They’ll have a record of any legitimate warrants. Please note that if you do have an outstanding warrant in another jurisdiction, they may arrest you, depending upon why the warrant was issued.

    Law enforcement agencies typically don’t communicate with wanted individuals by telephone or email. If a legitimate arrest warrant has been issued for you, law enforcement officials will make a personal visit, or will arrest you when they next encounter you.
